Our Parish encompasses the villages of Rathwire, Killucan and Raharney. It is a faith community that has ecclesiastical sites dating back to the time of St. Patrick, with the old cemetery of Kilpatrick at Scarden as recognised evidence. The landscape of the parish stretches between the towns of Ballivor, Delvin, Kinnegad and Mullingar. It is an area familiar to those who use the R156 road. The Sligo to Dublin railway also passes through the parish. For tourists and pleasure boating enthusiast the Royal Canal takes a stretch along our parish. It is a beautiful amenity which so many around here appreciate.
Predominately agricultural there are many local and international industries based in the parish providing good employment. Since the mid nineteen nineties the population increased substantially with new housing estates built and lots of families relocating from Dublin. Indeed, due to our central location close to the M4 and M6 many people from elsewhere in Ireland and abroad have chosen to settle in our parish. Together with those whose families are rooted here for generations, there is an abundant community spirit expressed in the various clubs and societies actively putting our locality on the sporting and cultural map.
As parishioners of the Catholic Church we strive to create a vibrant community celebrating the Faith, Hope and Love we profess in Jesus Christ. We trust that this website is of some assistance to you and keeps you up to speed with all that is happening for us. Be assured of our prayers and feel welcome to join us any weekend.
